Work Experience
Speaker Refurbishment Self Employed (August 2016 - Present)
- Managing an online business, sourcing B&O speakers from online sellers to refurbish, fix any faults, and sell them on. I replace faulty parts, solder new wires into the electronics, and refoam the speakers before listing them online. I designed the company website used to advertise sales and receive custom repair orders.
Bar Staff Attleborough Liberal Club (July 2021 - July 2023)
- Most shifts during this job were spent alone on the bar, serving customers and managing sales using the till system. Other times, I would work busy shifts in a team for functions hosted at the club, where we would serve 200+ customers throughout the event. This helped me become more comfortable with a customer-facing position and developed my adaptability in the workplace as I had to respond to problems without a manager on site to assist me.
Parcel Sorter Royal Mail Atherstone (October 2018 - December 2018)
- In this role, I worked in a warehouse sorting parcels. The role was interesting as I worked with different people on each shift and it helped me build my confidence in a work environment. It was hard physical work and long shifts which I managed well.
Projects
Card Game Deck Analysis Tool
- My dissertation project was a program for users to input a Magic: The Gathering deck list, receive budget-adjusted card suggestions tuned to their needs, and view statistical analyses presented with appealing graphics.
Full Stack Home Media Server
- I maintain a server employing a variety of Docker services that allow me to manage a large media library accessible from any of my devices. Additionally, I use the server for game and website hosting, as well as running bots for Discord and Reddit.
Videogame Progress tracker
- Currently, I’m working on a League of Legends stat tracker that leverages the game’s API tools to provide a casual-oriented insight into a player’s account across a variety of metrics. Contrasting competitively-focused tools, the site focuses on completion goals such as winning as every character and challenge progress.
Writing
Tech blog bridging the gap between academia and everyday users
- My blog aims to explain to readers outside of the space how modern tech breakthroughs are developed, how they work, and what impact they may have on daily life. I aim to present digestible explanations so readers can come away with a strong knowledge of a new topic, begin to form their own opinions on important issues (such as ethics in generative AI datasets) and understand the jargon that pervades computer science news.
